The child is just like his father. Back in the day, his father juggled studies and part-time jobs, sometimes even sending money home.
“You earn money and just spend it all; how could I, as your mother, take your money? Your mother is still capable and strong!” Zhao Fangchun stuffed the money back into Ye Qiu’s hands. It was enough that her son didn’t complain about not being able to wear branded clothes while being looked down upon by his classmates; how could she possibly take his money?
“Mom, you have to take it. My classmates all use their first earnings to buy gifts for their parents. If I just give you money directly, it’ll look bad. If you don’t accept it, my classmates will look down on me.”
“And besides, don’t you dare set up a stand. If my classmates find out that I can earn money but still let my mother work three jobs a day, they’ll think I’m not good at studying and can’t make money!”
Ye Qiu firmly pressed the money back into his mother’s hands and tried to leave.
Seeing her son’s stubbornness, Zhao Fangchun comfortingly accepted the money, holding onto him while sharing sweet words for a while, and finally let him go with some prepared fruit in his hands.
The boy didn’t even think of a good reason for giving money; how could there be disdain for not giving money? She had never heard of such a thing. She suspected he was too shy to admit he felt guilty about her hard work.
After starting college, her son had become much shyer.
The original owner: Sorry for initially deceiving for money; I was inexperienced.
Sometimes, Zhao Fangchun felt that the way her son looked at her was strange, almost as if he looked down on her or deemed her inadequate. Looking back, every time her son looked at her like that, she was likely busy doing heavy labor, and he probably thought she could only read and was of no help. What a good child; he knows how to be considerate of her. In the village, which mother didn’t work hard until they were in their sixties or seventies before resting? Here she was, in her forties, and her son was in a hurry to give her money to show his filial piety.
Her son was so understanding. No matter what she said, he always complied.
How could she question such a obedient and filial son? That was truly unjustifiable.
Zhao Fangchun wanted to organize things but recalled her son saying that if he set up a stand, he would only visit her once a month. She abandoned the thought of him setting up a stand. He cared about her; she couldn’t go against his wishes.
When Ye Qiu returned with the fruit, only Mu Tao was in the dormitory.
Mu Tao often stayed in the dormitory; the other two were either studying or doing part-time jobs.
“Want some fruit?”
Knowing Ye Qiu’s family situation, Mu Tao felt embarrassed to accept the fruit, even though the past fruit Ye Qiu brought also remained untouched.
Seeing him refuse, Ye Qiu felt sad, leaving Mu Tao at a loss.
To eat or not to eat, that was the question.
This time, when Ye Qiu watched videos in the dormitory, no one had objections.
“Ye Qiu, didn’t you used to like watching videos in the library?” Mu Tao was a bit curious to see Ye Qiu actually in the dormitory during the day.
Previously, the original owner went to the library every day at dawn just to show off.
“I didn’t want to disturb you all by watching in the dormitory.” After finishing that, she suddenly looked at the noisy computer and realized something, hastily getting up to tidy her things.
How could I disturb?
Who is so inconsiderate!
“Just watch in the dorm!”
Mu Tao remembered how he had once impatiently complained about Ye Qiu being too loud while watching videos in the dorm. If only he could go back and slap himself for that, he eagerly presented his laptop. “Ye Qiu, use my laptop; my screen is clearer.”
If it were the former owner, she would probably think Mu Tao looked down on her.
To be fair, Ye’s mother had done very well within her capabilities. This laptop, while not as good as Mu Tao’s, was still much better than those of the other roommates. The original owner was too fixated on comparisons.
“We’re all roommates; if you don’t accept it, my heart aches.” Mu Tao leaned dramatically across the table, acting as though he couldn’t breathe.
Ye Qiu immediately stood up, concerned, “Does your heart hurt? Do you need to see a doctor?”
“Oh no, if you take my laptop, it feels like I can breathe so much easier.” Mu Tao quickly placed the laptop on Ye Qiu’s desk, finally catching his breath.
Ye Qiu held the laptop, noticing that Mu Tao wasn’t convulsing like before, and felt relieved as she focused on the screen, periodically checking Mu Tao’s condition.
Once Mu Tao gave away his laptop, he felt much more comfortable.
His screen was significantly clearer, and he could potentially see more details in videos.
Perhaps those details would allow Ye Qiu’s clever brain to learn new technologies from abroad.
In doing so, he could contribute a key piece to the country’s advancement!
Years later, a group of reporters with flashlights surrounded Mu Tao. “Mr. Mu, it’s said that when Dr. Ye discovered hover technology, she faced challenges due to unclear foreign video materials. It was fortunate you lent a helping hand for her research to proceed smoothly?”
“Actually, I didn’t do much. I only provided her with a clearer laptop; it mainly depended on Dr. Ye’s brilliant mind.” Mu Tao answered nostalgically, ensuring that his image was favorable.
“You shouldn’t downplay your contributions. A blurry laptop could have delayed the country’s progress by another year. Your assistance is an essential part of technological advancement.”
“All in a day’s work, all in a day’s work.”
Suddenly, the intense sounds from the video jolted Mu Tao out of his daydream.
He looked around, contemplating for a moment, then pulled out an apple, washing it, cutting it into pieces, and skewering them with toothpicks before placing them on Ye Qiu’s desk, emanating a motherly aura.
“Ye Qiu, after staring at the computer for so long, your eyes must be tired. Get up and stretch, eating some fruit won’t take much time.”
Ye Qiu looked up in disbelief at Mu Tao.
Mu Tao was puzzled. Did he really not want to waste even a few minutes? He was indeed the backbone of the nation, but even a backbone shouldn’t sit all day; for health, he had to keep an eye on Ye Qiu and coax him, and if that didn’t work, he would pull him up.
“You’re speaking just like my mom now.”
